THE EMAIL GROWTH SHOW EPISODE 192
Can we talk about “value” for a second?
Because if I see one more vanilla-ass carousel claiming to “add value” with five productivity tips and a beige Canva template, I might actually scream.
Somewhere along the way, “just give value” became the holy grail of online marketing.
Lead with value.
Post value.
Create valuable content and the sales will follow.
But here’s the uncomfortable truth.
Not everything we label as value is actually helpful.
And if your content isn’t helping, it’s just noise.
Kylie Kelly [00:00:00]:
Hey, hey, welcome back to a mini solo episode of the Email Growth Show. These Tuesday episodes are short, spicy, and sound a whole lot like a voice note I’d send you after seeing one too many vanilla-ass Instagram carousels pretending to be valuable. Today, you guessed it, we’re talking about value. That word is everywhere. Just give value, lead with value, create valuable content and sales will follow. But you know what? If I see one more carousel with 3 tips to stay productive on a Monday, I might actually fucking scream. Because here’s the truth. Not everything we think is value actually is.
Kylie Kelly [00:00:36]:
We have to stop calling it value when it’s just noise. Just because you posted something educational, just because you shared a how-to or a tip or a motivational quote doesn’t mean your audience actually felt anything. And that’s the whole point, right? Real value creates momentum. It makes someone stop scrolling. It makes them feel understood. It gives them a next step or a new lens to look through. Now, I’m gonna say something bold, but I know you are here for that, right? Your audience does not need another Canva graphic of the buyer’s journey. They don’t need more content.
Kylie Kelly [00:01:07]:
They need more clarity. They need more connection. They need to feel like you’re the real fucking deal, not just the next pretty voice in the void. Let me paint you a little picture. You write a post, 5 ways to improve your lead magnet, but then what? There’s no call to action, no story, no invitation into your world, just a little hope this helps at the end, and then crickets. But imagine instead, and I’m going to use myself as the example, if I told them why lead magnets usually don’t work, if I explained how I used mine to grow my list by 10,000 subscribers, if I shared a client example, and then I said, do you want help fixing yours? Come and join the Email Growth Club. I’ve got a whole workshop waiting for you. That is value.
Kylie Kelly [00:01:49]:
It’s not just helpful, it actually leads somewhere and it moves the relationship forward. So let me be really clear here. Real value equals clarity, connection, and conversion. If it’s not building trust, if it’s not making your audience feel something, and if it’s not rooted in who you are and how you serve, then it’s just content for content’s sake. And I say this with so much love because I’ve been there too. I’ve written posts because I felt like I had to. I’ve shared tips that sounded good on paper but didn’t do shit for my business. I’ve pushed value out into the world because I thought I was supposed to.
Kylie Kelly [00:02:25]:
But I wasn’t really saying anything at all. And do you know when it changed? When I started asking myself, does this move someone? Does this help them take action or see things differently? Does this sound like me? And honestly, that shift changed everything because now when I share content, normally on the podcast, it’s with purpose. I write with rhythm in my emails and I sell with so much less pressure because the value is already doing half the work for me. So if you’re wondering, why isn’t my content converting? Why is no one opening my emails? Why does everything feel like I’m shouting into the fucking void? Let me gently, or not so gently, ask you this. Is your content actually helping anyone? Or are you just checking the be consistent box? Because consistency without connection is just busy work. And something that I learned the hard way, busy work does not pay the bills. So here’s your spicy little assignment for today. I want you to stop overthinking what to post.
Kylie Kelly [00:03:22]:
Stop trying to sound like your favorite online online coach. Stop posting value just because it looks good on your grid. I want you to start creating content that’s true. True to your voice, true to your offers, and true to your audience. Tell the stories you’re scared to tell. Share the opinion that makes you stand out. Write the fucking email that sounds like you, not another email template. Because that, that is what people remember.
Kylie Kelly [00:03:45]:
That’s what builds trust. That’s what’s going to make someone want to work with you. So look, if this hit home today, come and find me on Instagram. You can find me over at @KylieKelley. Send me a DM. Tell me what kind of fake value you’re leaving behind and what kind of content you’re ready to start sharing instead. And of course, if you want support creating messaging that actually connects and sells, that’s what I help my members do inside of the Email Growth Club. You’ll find the link in the show notes below.
Kylie Kelly [00:04:09]:

P.S. If you want your content to stop feeling like noise and start driving real momentum, the Empire Expansion Event will show you exactly how to make that shift.
Just because you posted something educational does not mean it created impact.
A how-to.
A checklist.
A motivational quote.
That alone is not value.
Real value does three things:
It creates clarity.
It builds connection.
It leads somewhere.
If your audience reads your post and feels absolutely nothing, that is not value. That is content for content’s sake.
And content for content’s sake does not pay the bills.
They need more clarity.
They need to feel understood.
They need to believe you are the real fucking deal, not just another pretty voice floating around the internet.
Let me give you an example.
You post: “5 ways to improve your lead magnet.”
Cool.
Now what?
There is no story.
No opinion.
No call to action.
No invitation into your world.
It ends with “Hope this helps” and then… crickets.
But imagine instead you told them:
Why most lead magnets fail.
How you used yours to grow your list by 10,000 subscribers.
What a client changed that doubled their opt-ins.
And then you said, “If you want help fixing yours, come join my Email Growth Club. There’s a full workshop waiting for you.”
That is value.
Because it moves the relationship forward.
Here is the framework I want you to burn into your brain:
Real value = Clarity + Connection + Conversion.
Clarity means your audience understands something better than they did five minutes ago.
Connection means they feel seen, understood, or challenged in a way that resonates.
Conversion means there is a next step. It does not have to be a hard sell. But it leads somewhere.
If your content is missing one of those pieces, it is probably not working as hard as you think it is.
This one might sting a little.
If you are posting three times a week, sending weekly emails, showing up everywhere, and still hearing crickets, it might not be a consistency problem.
It might be a connection problem.
I say this with love because I have been there.
I have written posts because I felt like I had to.
I have shared tips that sounded smart but did nothing for my business.
I have created “value” because I thought that was what good marketers did.
But I was not really saying anything.
The shift happened when I started asking myself:
Does this move someone?
Does this help them see something differently?
Does this actually sound like me?
When the answer was yes, everything changed.
My emails felt lighter.
My selling felt easier.
The pressure dropped because the value was already doing half the work.
Let me gently ask you something.
When you look at your last five pieces of content, did they actually help someone take action?
Or were they ticking the “be consistent” box?
Because consistency without purpose is just busy work.
And busy work does not create sales. It creates burnout.
Your audience does not need more generic tips.
They need your opinion.
Your stories.
Your lived experience.
Your perspective.
They need content that feels like it came from a human, not a template.
Stop trying to sound like your favourite online coach.
Stop posting “value” because it looks good on your grid.
Stop watering down your message so it feels safe.
Start creating content that is true.
True to your voice.
True to your offers.
True to the transformation you actually deliver.
Tell the story you have been holding back.
Share the opinion that makes you stand out.
Write the fucking email that sounds like you, not something you copied from a swipe file.
Because that is what builds trust.
That is what people remember.
That is what converts.
