THE EMAIL GROWTH SHOW EPISODE 219
A client of mine is hosting a summit right now, and she told me something that stopped me in my tracks.
One of her speakers has a huge email list. Thousands of subscribers.
And yet…
No clicks.
No purchases.
No engagement.
Then she said, “It’s funny though — your list actually does convert.”
And that right there is the conversation we need to have.
Because this has nothing to do with list size.
TL:DR
What you’ll learn in this episode:
– The real reason engagement drops even when your list is “growing”
– How unclear positioning confuses your audience and kills conversions
– Why the way you grow your list determines how well it performs later
– Simple questions to audit your positioning and message clarity
If you want a clear outside perspective on where your message is muddy and what to fix first, that’s exactly what my Business Breakthrough Audit is for.
One personalised review.
Three clarity shifts.
A plan you can actually implement.
You can have:
And still make no sales.
Why?
Because if people don’t understand who you are, what you do, and why it matters to them, they won’t take action.
Volume does not drive conversion. Clarity does.
My audience knows me.
They know what I stand for.
They know what to expect when my name shows up in their inbox.
There is a clear through-line from how people find me, to how I nurture them, to how I sell.
That doesn’t happen accidentally.
That is positioning.
Positioning is the perception people have of you in their minds.
It’s not just your niche.
It’s not your tagline.
It’s not your bio.
It’s the identity you build through:
All of it.
And here’s the uncomfortable truth:
If your positioning is unclear, your audience is confused.
And a confused audience does not click.
A confused audience does not buy.
They scroll.
They lurk.
They ghost.
Not because they don’t like you, but because they don’t get you.
When your positioning is clear, your emails don’t have to work as hard.
Before someone even opens your email, there’s already recognition.
This is for me.
I trust her.
I like how she thinks.
That happens before the subject line does its job.
But when positioning is muddy?
You can write the most beautifully crafted, high-converting sequence in the world and it will still fall flat — because people don’t see themselves in it.
No amount of copy can compensate for unclear positioning.
This usually starts at the list growth stage.
If people join your list because of a random freebie, bundle, or collaboration that has nothing to do with your actual work, they didn’t opt in for you.
They opted in for the thing.
That doesn’t make them bad subscribers.
But it does mean conversion will be harder.
That’s why I’m incredibly intentional about how I grow my list.
Yes, I use bundles.
Yes, I use summits.
Yes, I collaborate.
But everything connects back to my positioning.
People don’t just know me as “email marketing.”
They know me as:
That clarity creates trust before I ever sell anything.
Before you rewrite another sequence, ask:
If your answer is “I’m not sure” to any of those…
You don’t need new emails.
You need clarity.
Because positioning determines whether people trust you enough to take the next step.
If your list feels quiet or unresponsive, start here:
1. Revisit your core message
What do you actually want to be known for?
2. Audit your freebies
Are they attracting the right people — or just more people?
3. Clarify your offers
Is there a clear path from opt-in to paid support?
4. Simplify your visibility
Consistency of message matters more than platform volume.
5. Speak like a leader
Your audience follows clarity, not cleverness.
Authority creates safety. Safety creates conversions.
If you’ve been wondering why your email list feels quiet, it might not be your emails at all.
It might be your positioning.
And if you want an outside perspective on where your clarity is breaking down, this is exactly what I do inside my Business Breakthrough Audit.
I review your visibility, offers, and email strategy and show you the three clarity shifts I’d make if I were in your shoes.
No “post more on Instagram” advice.
Ever.
Just a grounded, personalised plan to turn quiet subscribers into engaged buyers.
But when your message is clear?
Your email list won’t just grow.
It will convert.
