Everybody wants the big email list. 10,000 subscribers, 20,000, 50,000. But nobody really talks about how you actually get there.
Here's the truth: you don't wake up one morning with 50,000 subscribers. You build it one day at a time, one collaboration, one podcast interview, one lead magnet at a time.
In this episode I'm sharing the story behind my newest course, 50 a Day, and why the name is really a reminder that consistency compounds.
If you're tired of feeding the algorithm and you want growth that keeps working on the days you don't, this one's for you.
Why growing your email list without social media starts with one question
Back when I was a wedding photographer, I thought I had to be on all the things. And because I was a photographer, my Instagram feed had to look perfect.
I loved the photography. What exhausted me was the feeling that every new booking depended on me constantly feeding the machine. If I took a week off, went on holidays, or got busy actually shooting weddings, the enquiries slowed down.
That was before I became a mum. The thought of building a business that way now, with a very full life and two little boys, is honestly crushing.
So if social media lights you up, go for it. All the power to you. But if it doesn't, I want you to swap one question for another.
Instead of asking "How do I get more followers?", start asking "How do I build an audience I actually own?"
"Followers are borrowed. Subscribers are invited."
We don't own the platforms. Your email list is different: every subscriber put their hand up and said "yes, I want to be part of your world." That's consent-based marketing, and it's the foundation everything else gets built on.
The maths of adding 10, 20 or 50 new subscribers a day
Here's what fascinates me. One subscriber becomes 10, 10 becomes 100, 100 becomes 1,000. Tiny actions, repeated, compound into something extraordinary.
Look at what a daily target turns into over a year:
+ 10 subscribers a day = 3,650 new subscribers
+ 20 a day = over 7,000
+ 50 a day = more than 18,000
Every one of those subscribers is a potential podcast listener, customer, launch attendee or community member, and another chance to genuinely help someone.
We underestimate slow and steady growth because it's quiet. It doesn't go viral. It just keeps adding up.
Build the system once, then let it do its job
About 12 months ago I joined the Smart Business Mastermind with Adam Flores, and one idea stuck with me: build something well, touch it once, then let the system do the work.
The catch is that a system starts with you figuring it out first. Say your goal is 10 new subscribers a day. What actually gets you there? Sharing in a particular group? Publishing a blog post? Networking with 20 people and having half of them sign up?
Once you know the process, you turn it into a system. Then, with AI and automation, you can automate that system. In that order. Automating something you haven't figured out yet just gives you a faster mess.
And keep it simple. I believe this with my whole body: simple scales. Most business owners don't need another complicated strategy. They need a simple one they'll actually stick to.
Traffic, the bridge, and your email family on the other side
If you're new to building an email list, here's how the pieces connect.
On one side you have borrowed traffic: guest speaking, summits, bundles and podcast interviews, where you're borrowing someone else's audience. Then you have evergreen visibility: SEO, Pinterest, YouTube and PR, the things that keep working long after you've created them.
Both roads lead to a bridge, and that bridge is your lead magnet. On the other side is your email family.
The bridge has to be strong. Your lead magnet needs to solve one very specific problem for one very specific person, because that's what turns attention into a relationship.
Traffic with no bridge goes nowhere. A gorgeous lead magnet with no traffic goes nowhere too. You need both working together.
Your next 30 days: one borrowed strategy, one evergreen strategy, one lead magnet
Here's your practical step. Pick one borrowed audience strategy and one evergreen strategy, and make sure your lead magnet is the right bridge. Do it for 30 days.
Then look at how many people you're adding to your list each day, and aim for the next increase.
A growing email list gives you options. You can launch, sell, fill a workshop, test a new offer or simply ask your people what they need. And nobody can take it away from you. Meta can't close it down overnight and no platform can change the rules on you.
My own podcast is proof. This is episode 258, four years of publishing one 20-minute episode a week. I can miss a week and still get downloads, subscribers and purchases. That's what consistency builds: a business that keeps growing on the days you aren't working.

I want to tell you the story behind my newest digital product, 50 a Day. The link is in the show notes. At the moment it is just $27, and trust me, after you listen to this episode, I think you're gonna wanna go and grab it.
While it is a course, I don't actually think it's about getting 50 subscribers a day. It is about something much bigger than that. It's about creating a business that compounds over time. It's about building systems inside of our business so that we can have a sustainable business that doesn't just rely on motivation. It's about creating assets instead of chasing algorithms. And honestly, I think you're going to love it. Let me tell you a little bit about why.
Are you a female business owner frustrated with battling the algorithm and looking for growth strategies that don't involve awkwardly pointing or dancing online or throwing cash at paid ads? Welcome to the Email Growth Show. I'm your host, Kylie Kelly, visibility and email marketing strategist. I grew my email list from zero to almost 10,000 subscribers in less than two years, and the same is possible for you too. Are you ready to build your email list and start making more money in your online business? Let's head into today's episode.
Hey, hey, my loves. Welcome back to the Email Growth Show. Today's episode is a little bit different. I want to tell you the story behind my newest digital product called 50 a Day. Because while it is a course, I don't actually think it's about getting 50 subscribers a day. I think it's bigger than that.
It's about creating systems that compound. It's about building systems instead of relying on motivation, instead of relying on algorithms, instead of relying on going viral or being lucky. And it's this shift that I've seen in my students that takes them from a stressful, almost demanding business that they're trying to build to something that they can actually have fun building, where they can see results really quite quickly.
Now, the funny thing is, this didn't start with the idea for a product. It started with frustration. I obviously teach this day in and day out. I have a Skool community that is incredible, 1,200 women inside of there all deciding that it was time to grow their email list. And still, there was not one place that I had where they could go for the framework, where they could go for the teachings to be all in one place.
And what I've found is if there isn't this one place, this one home base, they would do it for a little while, but then they'd get frustrated, or they'd get the shiny squirrel syndrome and think that they were missing out and should go back and try social again. And then they're back in that cycle of trying to keep up, trying to post consistently, trying to understand the algorithm, trying to make the reel and the B-roll, and trying to be everywhere.
And it's a really easy thing to get swept up in again, right? Because everyone online especially is telling us that we need to be there, when it is actually not the case. Now, I have done this too. When I was a wedding photographer, I thought I needed to be on all the things, right? And I was very pedantic about how curated my feed looked. I mean, I was a photographer. It needed to look really aesthetically pleasing.
And even just upkeeping my Instagram back then, I was exhausted. And I wasn't exhausted because I didn't love the photography. I absolutely did. But it felt like to get new clients, new couples, to grow my business, I had to constantly be feeding the machine. And if I stopped posting, if I stopped being visible, if I stopped doing the things and trying to get attention, everything slowed down. If I took a week off, if I took holidays, when I got busy actually photographing the weddings, the bookings slowed down. And whilst back then I didn't have the boys, I was yet to become a mum for most of that journey, I still remember thinking, there has to be a better way.
And now the thought of having to rely on something like that as a mum, as a woman that has a very full life as well as trying to build a business, like so many of you, oh my goodness, that is a crushing thought. That would make it really hard to actually show up every day in my business, because that doesn't feel fun to me.
Now, some of you listening might love social media. You might love showing up every day. You might love creating content, and if that is true, oh my God, all the power to you. Go and do it, absolutely. But I know there are some of you that aren't lit up by that, that don't find that fun.
And so I want you to know that there is another way, right? Instead of asking, "How do I get more followers?" I want you to start asking, "How do I build an audience I actually own?" Because they are two very different questions, right? Followers are borrowed. We don't own the platforms that we're trying to get followers on.
Subscribers, they are invited, right? You own your email list. They are choosing to be there. It's consent-based marketing. They are putting their hand up saying, "Yes, I wanna be a part of your world." That is powerful. And that one question, if you can start to think, "How do I build an audience I actually own?" and focus on that, that will completely change your business.
Now, for me, as you know, I'm obsessed with email. Yes, I have had my moments where I am testing and experimenting and trying out new things, and I have a community on Skool. I love my community. But the platforms themselves, they will come and go, right? They will change things when they wanna change things. They will do whatever serves them best. But the people, right? The people, the connection, oh my goodness, I am obsessed.
And again, it's not because I love writing emails, although I don't mind it. It's because I love what that represents. We own our email list. We're building relationships. We get to be consistent. We get to be predictable. We get to be a safe space for whoever's on the other side of that inbox, in whatever way that you want, right? I love that. I love that I can send a question out to my email list about how their business is going, and I will get replies back that are very vulnerable, that are very in-depth, from my subscribers, because they feel like they know me. I feel like I know them. That lights me up in ways that posting a social media reel never could.
There's also something that I wanted to mention, and it fascinates me, right? So everybody wants, like, 10,000 subscribers, or 20,000, or 50,000. The big number, the big email list. But nobody really talks about how to actually get there, right? Because you don't wake up one morning and have 50,000 subscribers. You build it one day at a time. One collaboration at a time, one podcast interview, one summit, one lead magnet, one blog post, one referral, one Meta ad. Over time, one subscriber becomes 10, 10 becomes 100, 100 becomes 1,000. And eventually, those tiny actions that you've been doing compound into something extraordinary.
This is why I've called my new mini course 50 a Day. Not because 50 is a magical number, but because it's a reminder that consistency compounds. So let's talk about what that actually means. If you add 10 subscribers a day to your email list, that's 3,650 subscribers in a year. 20 a day, over 7,000 subscribers. 50 a day, that's more than 18,000 new subscribers. That isn't just a bigger email list. That could be more podcast listeners, more customers, more launch attendees, more people joining your community, more opportunities, more relationships that you're building, more chances to actually help someone and make an impact.
And I think sometimes we underestimate just how powerful that slow and steady growth can be. Now, one of the things that really stuck with me: about 12 months ago, I joined a mastermind. It's called the Smart Business Mastermind by Adam Flores. Adore Adam, adore my time in the mastermind. It was a six-month-long container. I loved it. And he talked a lot about creating a business where ideally you touch something once, you build it well, and then you let the system do its job.
Now, I'm not just talking about automation, I'm talking about a system. And often a system starts by us figuring it out first, and then we systemise it. So for example, if our goal is to get 10 subscribers a day, we figure out what that looks like. What do I need to do in order to get 10 subscribers a day? Do I have to be sharing in this group? Do I have to be posting the blog post? Do I have to be networking with 20 people and get half of them to sign up? What is the process? And then once we know the process, okay, how can we make a system out of it? And now with AI, with automation, we can then automate the system. But we need to figure out what the system is first.
And then the other part of this is keeping it as simple as possible. I believe with my entire body, I know that simple scales. I've included this inside of the course because we need to remember to keep things simple. Most business owners don't need another complicated strategy. They need a simple one that they'll actually stick to.
That is exactly what 50 a Day is. It's a little mini course, bite-sized trainings. It will take you, like, an hour to get through. And at the end, we plan out your next 30 days, simply. It's not 50 different strategies. It's not another 12-module course that you'll never finish. It's thinking about what's one borrowed audience strategy, one evergreen strategy. What's your lead magnet? Keep it simple, repeatable, sustainable. Do it for 30 days. See how many people you're adding to your list a day. Great. Now we get to aim for the next increase.
Now, for anybody that is new to my world, what do I mean? How do I even add people to my list? I actually created this visual roadmap for the course because I wanted people, especially if they're new to email marketing or to building their email list, to understand how all the pieces connect, right?
So on one hand, there's borrowed traffic. Things like guest speaking, summits, bundles, podcast interviews, places where you're borrowing somebody else's audience. There are a lot of episodes on this podcast about all of these things, so hopefully that's not a new concept to you. But there's your borrowed traffic.
Then there's evergreen visibility, which still plays a very important role. Your SEO, your Pinterest, your YouTube, your PR, things that keep working long after you've created them. Those two roads lead to a bridge, right? The bridge is your lead magnet. On the other side of that bridge is the promised land, your email family. That's where we want all of that traffic. Whether they've come through the borrowed strategies or the evergreen visibility, however they've gotten there, all of that traffic leads to the bridge, and the bridge is your lead magnet.
But here's the thing. It's not just any lead magnet. It needs to be a lead magnet that solves one very specific problem for one very specific person. Because that bridge is what's going to turn that attention, that traffic, into a relationship that you can build on your email list. And once somebody joins your email list, once they make it over that bridge, that's where the magic really starts.
Now, inside 50 a Day, I do go into exactly what that bridge needs to be. It needs to be sexy. It needs to actually be something that they want, and I cover that inside of the mini course. Even that part itself is worth the $27 that I've priced the mini course at, right? That is such an important piece of the puzzle, because if you have traffic and no bridge to get them onto your list, it's pointless. Or if you have a really sexy lead magnet but no traffic, again, pointless. Your email list is not going to grow. You need both of these pieces working together in order to get those beautiful ideal clients onto your email list and to grow it to the size that we want it to be.
Now, as I start to wrap this up, I want you to know that this isn't just about email. This is about freedom. Freedom from feeling like you have to post every day, freedom from relying on one platform, freedom from wondering where your next client is coming from, or launching in panic mode because your audience hasn't grown since the last launch.
What I have learned is that a growing email list gives you options. You can launch, you can sell, you can fill a workshop, you can start a membership, you can test a new offer, you can ask questions, you can get market research, you can build relationships. Whatever you wanna do in your business, if you have an email list full of these beautiful people that you're building your relationship with, it gives you options, and it becomes the heartbeat of your business that no one can take away from you.
Do you know how much relief that can bring your nervous system, to know that it is within your control? You're not gonna wake up tomorrow and find Meta has decided to close your account, or Skool's decided to change the pricing, or whatever it is, right? You own your email list. That brings me so much relief.
And again, one of the reasons I'm so passionate about this right now is because I'm living it. You've heard me talk about the shift in my business. I'm building more digital products, I'm experimenting with Meta ads, I'm creating systems, but everything I'm doing now feeds back to that one central place, which is my email list. I'm just building more bridges. That's it.
I know that the businesses that are gonna do well over the next months, years, decades even, aren't the ones creating more content. They're gonna be the ones building the strongest systems. And for me, email is my number one system. It is the most important system of all.
So why did I create a course called 50 a Day? Because I wanted to create something that I wish I'd had years ago. Not another marketing strategy. A roadmap, a system, a step-by-step way of thinking about audience growth that feels calm instead of chaotic. Because again, we're building sustainable businesses here, and they are not built through big bursts of motivation. They are built through small actions repeated consistently, day upon day. One email, one collaboration, one blog post, one podcast episode, one new subscriber. Day after day, week after week, month after month, until one day you look back and realise, "Holy sh*t, I've built something that keeps growing even on the days that I'm not working."
Look at this podcast. It's a perfect example. This is episode 258. I've been doing it for four years now. I can miss a week, and I still get downloads, I still get subscribers, I still get purchases. That all comes from my podcast, just because every week I've been publishing my 20-minute episode. That's it, right? Again, consistency. And this is the kind of business that's worth building. One that is sustainable, one that can hold you when life gets hard.
So as I wrap up, my loves, if you wanna check out 50 a Day, like I said, at the moment it's just 27 bucks. I'll pop the link in the show notes. As always, I love you so much. Thank you so much for listening. If you grab 50 a Day, drop me an email and let me know what you think. I'm actually looking out for social proof as we speak, so expect me to ask for a testimonial. I will appreciate it oh so much. And of course, more than anything, keep on building your email list. Every new subscriber counts, okay? Remember that. All right, I will see you next week, my loves.
